Comparing a resource with the local history

How to compare a →resource with an edition in the →local history:

  1. In the project explorer, select the resource that you want to compare with a local history state.
Alternative: Open the object within the assigned default editor.

  2. From the context menu, select Compare With and Local History...
Result: The dialog Compare with Local History opens.

  3. Select an edition in the list under Local History (in the upper pane).
Result: Text Compare lists the differences between the selected edition and the current content.

  4. Click the buttons appearing on the far right of Text Compare to browse through the differences/changes.

  5. Repeat the last 2 steps, as required.

  6. Click OK.

If you need the complete text provided in an edition, you might want to replace a resource with the local history. If you need just a part of the text, copy the appropriate text displayed under Text Compare into the clipboard and then paste the copied text into the appropriate editor. If you need the text in a different resource, you might want to copy differences when comparing resources with each other.

You may configure your preferences for the local history. You may specify how many days to keep files, how many entries per file you want to keep or the maximum file size for files to be kept. Select Window, Preferences..., General, Workspace, Local History – Make sure that Limit history size is checked and specify the appropriate data.
