Bulk editing of safety parameters

It is possible to bulk edit the safety parameters by using 2 different methods:

Bulk editing by using the button "Start the bulk editing"

How to bulk edit the safety parameters in a started safety parameter editor:

  1. Click the button Start the bulk editing that is located in the control bar of the safety parameter editor (see the illustration under "Hardware parameterization using the safety parameter editor").
Result: The column Name and all safety parameters get a check box and the button Start the bulk editing changes into Stop the bulk editing. Now it is not possible to change the safety parameters as described under "Viewing or changing the current parameter values" anymore.

  2. Optional: Filter the safety parameters.

  3. Select the first safety parameter for the bulk edit by checking its box.

  4. Select some other safety parameters as well by checking their boxes. Alternative: Check the box in the column Name to have all compatible safety parameters selected.
(info) It is not possible to select a safety parameter that is incompatible to the safety parameter selected at first. To deselect an already selected safety parameter, uncheck it. Alternative: Uncheck the box in the column Name to have all safety parameters deselected at once.
Result when at least 2 safety parameters are selected: The safety parameter editor displays the fields for the bulk editing right over the columns. These fields are:

    • Value and an input field
If the selected safety parameters have the same value, the input field displays this value. If the selected safety parameters have different values, the input field does not display a value.

    • Commissionable and a check box
If the selected safety parameters have the same setting, the check box displays this setting. If the selected safety parameters have different settings, the check box displays an indeterminate state.

  5. Enter a new value in the input field for Value under Parameter Bulk Editing and confirm the change by pressing the Enter-key.
(info) The input field for Value under Parameter Bulk Editing is highlighted with a yellow background color, as long as the change is not confirmed.
Result: The value is entered in the selected safety parameters. The background color of the input field for Value reverts back to white. The dirty flag * in the tab makes you aware of unsaved changes in the editor.
Consequence of a correct change: The field color for the safety parameter remains white.
Consequence of an incorrect change: The field for the safety parameter is highlighted with a red background color. In addition, a message (an error) below the incorrect parameter informs about the incorrect value. When it is not possible to correct this faulty safety parameter in the current bulk edit session, correct this parameter after the bulk edit session has been stopped (see step 7 and step 8).

Example for the result of bulk edit: The values of Param name 3.3 and Param name 3.5 have been changed to value 310. The change for Param name 3.5 has been a correct change whereas the incorrect change for Param name 3.5 is indicated by the red background color and the message.

  6. Check or uncheck the column Commissionable to change the setting for the selected safety parameters.

  7. Click the button Stop the bulk editing to stop the current bulk editing session.

  8. Correct any faulty changed safety parameters as described under "Viewing or changing the current parameter values".

  9. Save the changes as described under "Saving safety parameter editor".

Bulk editing started with command "Bulk editing safety parameters"

How to bulk edit the safety parameters in different safety-relevant hardware devices that are provided in the same →project:

  1. Make the application navigator visible and select the appropriate items with the icon .
If these items are not visible, expand the subfolders containing the safety-relevant hardware device (see under "Opening the safety parameter editor").

  2. Open the context menu for one selected item with the icon and select the command Bulk editing safety parameters.
Result: The safety parameter editor is opened for the selected items. The title of the editor indicates this by listing all names. The common parameters are displayed in this safety parameter editor. The following is applied to the parameters in this editor:

    • If a parameter has the same value or setting (for a check box or selection field) in each selected item, the column displays this value or setting.

    • If a parameter has different values in the selected items, the column does not display a value. A check box with different settings displays an indeterminate state.

  3. Bulk edit the safety parameters as described in the above section: Bulk editing by using the button "Start the bulk editing"
Alternative: View and change the parameter values as described under "Viewing or changing the current parameter values". The following is valid for the alternative:

    • If a change is not possible for a parameter, the original value or setting is restored. An appropriate message informs about this.

    • The safety parameter editor stops after the first validation error. An appropriate message informs about this.

    • If there are changes, the dirty flag * in the tab makes you aware of unsaved changes in the editor.

  4. Save the changes as described under "Saving safety parameter editor".

  5. When bulk editing is no longer needed, close the editor as described under "Closing safety parameter editor".

Good to know

(grey lightbulb) If a different safety parameter editor is already open for some of the selected items, a prompt informs you that you must close these safety parameter editors before you can bulk edit the safety parameters. It is possible to save or discard any unsaved changes in these safety parameter editors.

(grey lightbulb) If you do not want to get this prompt the next time when bulk edit the safety parameters, check the option Do not show me this again in the dialog Closing related Safety Parameter Editors.
Change the preferences, if you want to get the prompt again: Open the preferences (menu Window, Preferences), select the group Safety Parameter Editor and uncheck Do not show "Closing related Safety Parameter Editors" dialog again.
