Installing

Preparing the installation

  1. Make sure that your system matches the system requirements.

  2. Get the download package as follows: Contact the support team of logi.cals and ask for the download package. Save the download package to your harddisk.

  3. Go to the Windows folder where you saved the download package.

  4. Open the context menu for the download package, select the appropriate command to extract the files and enter the target folder in which you want to extract the download package.
Note: The position and name of the extract command depends on the file archiver tool available on your system. logi.cals recommends: Use a file archiver tool that processes nested packages correctly . Example: the free file archiver "7-zip" – download is possible under: http://7-zip.org/

Should you have any troubles extracting, ask your administrator how to extract the download package on your system.

Installing logi.CAD 3

  1. Go to the Windows folder into which you extracted the download package. Go into the sub-folder Packages . This is the folder with the installation packages for logi.CAD 3.
If you are not sure which installation package to use, check the content of the file ReadMe.txt existing in the root folder of the download package.

  2. Open the context menu for the appropriate logi.CAD 3 installation package, select command Extract files... and enter the target folder in which you want to install logi.CAD 3.

No blanks or special characters in project name and installation path

Make sure that there are no blanks or special characters (such as umlauts, e.g. ä, ö, ü) in a project name and in the installation path. If anyway, logi.CAD 3 will not be able to load the application onto the PLC.
For the paths and project names, letters A – Z or a – z, numbers 0 – 9, dots (character .), underlines (character _) and dashes (character -) are allowed. Examples for allowed project names: my.project, my-project, my_Project_01

    Length of the installation path

Install logi.CAD 3 into a folder that has a path shorter than 255 characters. If the installation path is too long, logi.CAD 3 will not be able to load the application onto the PLC. Reason: The installation path of logi.CAD 3 with the path of the compiler that is used for building/loading the application by logi.CAD 3 must be shorter than 255 characters. See " An installation path too long prevents the building/loading of the application" for details.

  3. Afterwards, you can start logi.CAD 3 and use the →features of logi.CAD 3.

Installing the runtime system

The installation steps for the →runtime system of logi.CAD 3 depend on the used →PLC .

Installing the runtime system on the local Windows-PC

The installation of the runtime system is not necessary, if a local PLC (i.e., the local Windows-PC is used as →target system) is sufficient to monitor/test your application.
Reason: The installed version of logi.CAD 3 already contains a built-in PLC that corresponds to the runtime system version for Windows. When starting logi.CAD 3
, this built-in PLC is automatically started .

Installing the runtime system on any Windows-PC

If you want to use any Window-PC (i.e., not the local Windows-PC) as target system, install the runtime system as follows:

  1. Go to the Windows folder into which you extracted the download package. Go into the sub-folder Packages. This is the folder with the installation packages for the runtime system.
If you are not sure which installation package to use, check the content of the file ReadMe.txt existing in the root folder of the download package.

  2. Open the context menu for the appropriate runtime system installation package, select command Extract files... and enter the target folder in which you want to install the runtime system.

  3. Afterwards, you can start the runtime system at once.

Installing the runtime system on Controllino or Arduino Nano

If you are using a Controllino or an Arduino Nano as target system , there is no need to install the runtime system on it. However, reproduce t he tutorial Putting Controllino or Arduino Nano into operation.

Installing the runtime system on other target systems

If you are using a different target system , best practice is to reproduce the corresponding tutorial. It also includes instructions how to install the runtime system on this target system.
